Student attendance software with QR codes students cannot share

Take attendance in lectures, labs and classes in under a minute, and stop students signing in for friends who are not there.

The problem with class sign-in sheets and static QR codes

Calling a register wastes lecture time, and a sheet passed around a large class comes back with signatures for students who never arrived. Many institutions moved to a QR code or form link, which made it worse: the link is posted in the class group chat and students check in from bed. When attendance counts towards grades, exam eligibility, scholarships or visa requirements, the register has to be reliable. How to prevent proxy attendance.

How QRtimer keeps class attendance honest

  • The code on the projector changes every few seconds, so a photo in the group chat is useless.
  • One phone per student per class: a student cannot check in friends from their own phone.
  • Location check flags or refuses check-ins from outside the lecture hall. How geofencing attendance works.
  • Check-in windows close attendance after the first few minutes, so late arrivals are visible.
  • Locked registers: once the class closes, only an administrator can amend it, with a written reason.
  • Groups for tutorial or lab groups, so each session only accepts the students who belong in it. Each student's group is sent with their check-in code.

Term-long records per student

Create one event per course or term and one session per class. The report shows every student against every class with their attendance rate, so you can see who is at risk before the exam, not after. Export to Excel for your student records system, or download a PDF on your institution's letterhead.

Frequently asked questions

Can students share the attendance QR code?

They can share it, but it will not work. The code changes every few seconds and each scan gives a few minutes to type the student code on that same phone. Location check can also refuse check-ins from outside the room.

Do students need an app?

No. They scan with the phone camera and type their student code. You can import student lists and codes from your existing records.

Can I take attendance for very large lectures?

Yes. Any number of students can scan at the same time, and you can show the code on several screens in the same hall.

Run your next session with an attendance list you can trust.

Set up an event, import your list and open attendance in about ten minutes. Free for your first event.
